Shepherds pie recipe in an air fryer

Ingredients

Mashed potatoes: 

  • Yellow potatoes ( boiled ) - 6-7 

  • Milk - ¼ cup 

  • Butter - 3 tbsp 

  • Shredded cheese ( mexican or cheddar ) - ½  cup  

  • Salt to taste  


Filling: 

  • Ground beef or lamb - 1lb

  • Onion ( chopped ) - 1 

  • Garlic ( minced ) - 3 cloves

  • Frozen peas - 1 ½ cup 

  • Brown gravy - 1 packet ( used gravy mix from Ikea )

  • Worcestershire sauce  - 1 ½ tbsp 

  • Thyme leaves ( or dry leaves ) - 4 sprigs

  • Salt & pepper - to taste 

  • Oil - 1-2 tbsp for sauteing 

  • Shredded cheddar cheese - ½ cup 

Preparation

Make mashed potatoes:  

  • Boil potatoes, I normally use Instant Pot on manual high setting for 10 min and let natural pressure release. Mix all mashed potatoes ingredients in the bowl using potatoes masher 

Make filling:  

  1. On a medium skillet add oil and saute onions and then add garlic for a few min. 

  2. Add minced beef or lamb in the skillet and saute until brown ( about 7-10 min ). Add some salt and pepper to taste. 

  3. Prepare brown gravy mix and add to the skillet along with the Worcestershire sauce and peas and thyme leaves. Saute for another 5-7 minutes. 

Making Shepherd's pie: 

  1. Move meat mixture to the air fryer basket. I am using a silicon insert to avoid cleaning the air fryer. 

  2. Add a layer of mashed potatoes on top and then cover it up with the shredded cheese. 

  3. Move basket to air fryer to cook for 10-12 min at 380°F

  4. Add some greens on top to make it look healthy and enjoy!
